Therapeutic Approach

Personalized Attention for All Your Needs

As a social worker for the last 22 years, I have met many people from all walks of life. My genuine authentic approach with my patients has always been person-centered. With empathy and compassion, I utilize evidence-based trauma-informed psychotherapies and behavioral management techniques, to develop self-understanding, coping skills, self-regulation, healing, and empowerment. In a calm and safe environment, I encourage my patients to acquire new coping skills and reframe thoughts/feelings towards complicated life situations. It is essential to keep in mind that therapy is not a magic pill or a quick fix: therapy is a healing process that necessitates participation and investment from the patient and therapist alike. All of this can bring life-altering results.

CATIE Family Program

The C.A.T.I.E (CHILDREN/ADOLESCENCE TREATMENT IN EVIDENCE-BASED PSYCHOTHERAPIES) Family Program is a multi-disorder treatment in evidence-based treatments, adapted to clients’ needs, taught by a leader in the field, with ongoing coaching, using evidence-based teaching techniques and user-friendly materials.
1. Multi-disorder. Evidence-based.  Children almost always present with a combination of problems. The CATIE Family Program provides a state of the art treatment program in evidence-based interventions for children with some combination of disruptive behaviors, anxiety, depression, and trauma. Treatment for a given problem is always integrated with treatment for other problems. Procedures and therapeutic techniques are applied consistently across problem areas. While I have found that multi-disorder treatment is usually more useful and less costly than single disorder treatment, there are cases when the latter is preferable. For such cases, this treatment is also well suited.
2. Customized. Before any treatment can occur, I conduct a needs assessment. Treatment is then tailored to the unique skill levels, capacities, and criteria of my clients. For example, clients with basic CBT knowledge can skip to more advanced treatment. Subject areas can be dropped or added, topics emphasized or not. Treatment can be tailored in this way because I possess the necessary sophistication and expertise. I do not use the highly prescriptive, packaged approach common to most treatment.
3.  Integrated training materials. Treatment manuals have been designed based on the C.A.T.I.E. treatment program, specifically for my client’s. Each manual uses similar graphics, a common glossary of terms, the same general outline for therapy sessions. and extensive cross referencing. Easy to understand handouts for client and family are integrated into the therapy sessions.

CATIE Family Program

Many of the more than 500 named therapies used to treat children and adolescents with emotional and behavioral challenges lack supporting research. REACH uses and teaches only evidence-based psychotherapies – treatments that work – derived from rigorous scientific evaluations of efficacy and outcomes.

CATIE focuses on the use of cognitive behavior therapy, behavior therapy and other proven methods. CATIE is an excellent opportunity for child and adolescent clinicians to upgrade or learn new skills and interventions.

REACH offers CATIE training in the use of cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) to treat:

Disruptive Behavior
Trauma including Trauma Focused-Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT)

The four treatments and their accompanying manuals consist of brief, 8- to 12-session interventions that are flexible and easily adaptable to various clinical situations. These interventions emphasize coping strategies, problem solving, parenting, family communication, cognitive restructuring and more.
